Pleinaire painting has made for some interesting experiences. In college, (The State University at New Paltz, New York) I studied watercolor and drawing under Alex Martin, and painted prolifically on location for practice between classes. One memory stands out in particular, when I sat on a snowcovered log to paint my subject of ice floes on the river.
For my traditional landscapes, I prefer to be there in person, drawing and painting for several hours to inhale the light, shadows, colors, sounds, movements and feel of the place in order to transfer them to paper. Painting from photographs is a tool I use only when I am creating interpretive pieces.
In 1987, I registered for my Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Tahlequah Agency. Im proud to be of Cherokee descent and my art work reflects my respect for nature.
