There was something spiritual in the water garden and I tried to capture it. The reference photos I took at the time in no way resembled my finished painting. I take the photos almost as a reminder that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, painting on location and painting from a photo are worlds apart. This piece was a turning point for me in that I had two watercolor “accidents” that I was able to refrain from fixing. One is on the rim of the pond and the other is on the figurine. Once again the moving water challenged
me with its bubbles, shadows, depth and movement. The background was my first attempt at painting particles suspended in the air when the sun shines. The piece is complex with a lot to look at, including gold fish.
For each Beloved print ordered, a donation will be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in honor of friends and family who battle cancer.
