This piece I drew on location and painted in my studio. It took me as long to draw all the details as it normally does to paint a piece. The reflection in the truck to the right of the painting was particularly challenging as was trying to capture folks who didn’t stand still for very long. At home, I created paper models to help me with the shadows. I allowed myself to experiment with the shadow colorsno boring concrete here! For me, the nice part about only drawing on location is that I can relax and become more aware of my surroundings. Never having been at the Saturday Market before, I didnt realize that it has a community atmosphere. Friends run into friends to chat, farmers make friends, clients stop to chat. Its all very friendly and I tried to show that friendliness in my painting.
