This piece was painted at the home of a Master Gardener. Bud and Carol maintain ten manicured acres of flowers and arty garden decor. I believe that this gate led to some vegetables, as well as flowers. One has to duck under the grapevines to enter. That ducking under appealed to the child–artist in me. My adult–artist tried to capture the play of light and shadow that the hot summer day provided. I had fun painting the weathered gate. The white parts are white paper, not white paint and that meant I couldn’t get too carried
away painting the weathered parts or I would run out of white.
For each Garden Gate print ordered, a donation will be made to Campfire Boys and Girls in honor of my grandmother, Leah Hoffman, who was a Campfire Girl.
