Our local farm stands like to provide their customers with flower cutting fields, in addition to produce. There is something special about cutting one’s own bouquet, rather than receiving a florist arrangement. One must ponder which colors go well together and I think it is really a solitary pursuit. However, I found this couple delightful as the husband good–naturedly kidded his wife while she artfully put together her bouquet.

I chose to paint here on the day after a rain, so that I could get good cloud formations. Then, I simplified the barn, but allowed the John Deere tractor to show. Having never painted a row of corn before, I think I did a good job giving the appearance of detail, without painting each stalk. For the flowers, I painted abstractly and reserved my whites to keep the colors fresh.
