Fort McKay Road is one of my favorite scenic routes, however there are few places to pull off to paint. We have big ditches on the sides of our roads to allow for rainy season runoff. While painting this piece I was tormented with animal noise pollution. Across the street, several cows were confined to a pen, waiting for market, I assume. Their bellowing faded in and out as I entered my reverie mode for painting.
The foggy background and puddled foreground are what appealed to me, as well as the roosting birds. The foreground weeds tormented me and this piece lay incompleted in my studio for several months. The problem was that the parts I had completed were so good, that I was afraid to ruin the piece by experimenting with the weeds. Finally, I was able to take the plunge and was able to complete what is now my husbands favorite of my paintings.
