It was after painting all the small details in this piece, that I decided to continue working on the same size paper, but work larger and less detailed. Painting with a 3haired brush is tedious. I think that the brush strokes are as important as the subject. In this piece, the brush strokes in the foam at the base of the falls are some of the best strokes in the piece. They were painted rapidly as I felt the motion of the water. Note that I do not use white paint. The white in this piece is white paper that I carefully try not to cover with paint. A good trick!
Winchester Dam has a fish ladder where vistors can watch salmon and steelhead as they swim by in the North Umpqua River. It is off Interstate 5 just north of Roseburg, Exit 129.
